We’ve spent one week at the Brown Sugar Surf Camp on Bali. It is located at Medewi and I think here you get probably the best value for money compared to all the other surf camps on Bali. The charmfull bamboo-huts are set up directly at the beach and surrounded by beautiful green rice fields. The region is not yet flooded by tourists as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu and the other tourist hot spots in the south-east of Bali. No giant hotel buildings are destroying the beautiful Bali landscape.

We had two surf sessions a day with an awesome crew of surf guides. Mostly we would go to the famous lefthander at Medewi which can be Bali’s longest ride on a good day. Linda and I both have the feeling, that we improved a lot during this one week. Also we have taken with us a lot of input on our technique that we can work on during our next surfing vacation. The video analysis, which took place twice a week, was very helpful for this matter as well.

When we needed a break of surfing, we decided to do a trip to Ubud to see rice fields, temples, monkey forest, traditional dance and do a sunrise vulcano trekking on Mount Batur. This kind of sightseeing is probably the typical Bali stuff that everyone does when coming to Bali but it is also totally worth it for one or two days when your body needs a break from surfing.

There is so much more to say about this awesome camp but since pictures can say more than words – just watch the video.

If you want to have fun surfing with others, improve your surfing skills, chill out, experience the beauty of Bali and get the best deal for a surf camp on Bali – I would recommend Brown Sugar in Medewi. We are hoping to come back soon…
